What is this all about?

I have been asked by several friends to make a blog about the diffident hobbies and technical things I think about, come across, and create for a hobby and the stage. If you have something you would like me to build or explore please let me know. I am always looking for new ideas.

3D printer update

Here is the 3D printer so far. It is all built and ready for testing. I am sure it will need much in the way of adjustments, but for the most part it is all built. All 3 end stops are wired in. All 4 stepper motors are tuned and should be running at the right temperature. The heating tip has both a nichrome wire to heat it and a thermocouple to keep track of the temperature. Next, I have to get the software up and running, and get the printer and the computer talking. So hopefully in the next month or so it should be ready to print my first item. I still do not know what I want to print after the test cube. Any ideas what I should do first?

  1. James... you're psycho... but I'm excited to see your first print. I think you should do like Guttenburg (sp?) and print a Bible. I dunno... just an idea. What are the items made of?

  2. Geoffrey,
It prints 3mm plastic filament. This gets melted down to .2mm to create each layer. all the blue parts you see were printed on an other one down in Fl. well I Could print a block that looks like a Bible, but this would not print readable text. I could print a 3D page with raised text. or posibly a page at a time in braille.
